I wear stripes like a sailor of old Sailing the seas of love I wear checkers like a player of chess Making the moves to win your heart I’m not always strategic But there’s a meaning to my fabric I’m wearing the sleeve of my heart I wear paisley like wallpaper I just wanna be in a room with you I wear polka dots ‘cause I’ve spotted The one I love, yes it is true I’m not always strategic But there’s a meaning to my fabric I’m wearing the sleeve of my heart (Whistle or guitar solo) I wear leopard print or tiger Cause you just drive me wild I wear a button-up shirt with roses Cause loving you is just my style

time choice and chance are weaving a tapestry the needlework God has certainly been good to me But sometimes I only see The underside Where the dark and knotted strings Are being tied Our lives are prematurely rated It might seem like we’re cut off cursed or fated But the weaver and our weaving is not done There are still many more days under moon and sun Truth space and grace are weaving a tapestry To the masterpiece friend each artwork takes time, you see But sometimes we only see The underside Distracted by the vanity and pride Our lives are prematurely rated It might seem like we’re cut off cursed or fated But the weaver and our weaving is not done There are still many more days under moon and sun Yes justice love and mercy are still to come For everyone

Sometimes the ax fells the tree Sometimes it takes division to get unity Sometimes you’re anything but free So be kind Everyone’s in the battle of their lives So be kind Sometimes a good word’s just enough Sometimes we’re gentle and sometimes we’re tough And sometimes the road’s really rough So be kind Everyone’s in the battle of their lives So be kind If we all give love Maybe there’ll be enough Maybe there’ll be enough Sometimes the ax fells the tree Sometimes it’s you and sometimes it’s me Sometimes we’re anything but free

I may not have much Just this soul and a song But maybe if you sing along We can set this night on fire Walk this heart-string high wire Forget that everybody’s for hire Cause in a world made of money Would you be my sweet honey Oh wouldn’t it be funny If the cracked code and the crux Is that to feel a million bucks You’ve got to leave it all behind Find heaven in a moment Just feel it and then show it Speak the words that are on your mind I may not have much Just this soul and a song But maybe if you sing along Pay the electric with the light Emanating from inside Our hearts playing a game Of ping pong
5.
The day that shame was invented A paradise was lost A universe separating lovers Made of black holes and dead stardust Floating untethered In the dark We lost our only true spark The day that shame was invented Love wrapped us in its arms Although remorse made me naked I wore your grace like a charm Caught by your Forgiving hand And given back to the land Ooooo Ooooo The day that shame was invented What was wild was no longer free A world of wonder connected Now a broken unity Though every atom Spun in place I was cut off from your face The day that shame was invented A new avenue was made Though darkness burned in my bosom You met me in the shade I matched the ardor Of your chase And your amazing grace Oooo Oooo

Like tastebuds on the tongue I’m wondering how everyone Can feel the sunlight on their skin Can hear the weeping violin Read in life such poetry, Such comedy and tragedy Culture, of course, plays its part But it seems the language of the heart’s Universal The propensity to rhyme The fear and reverence of time The concrete mystery of science The part in us that feels defiance The romance of the road The way our minds like fireworks explode Culture, of course, plays its part But it seems the language of the heart’s Universal Ecumenical All-inclusive Cosmopolitan Comprehensive And extensive Yes, pervasive Ubiquitous
7.
Each day has trouble of its own But one day you will see how the seeds that you’ve sown Have grown up to be shade-bearing trees Your trials and your stress Made a paradise of peace For the ones that you love And for those Who you welcomed and helped Out along the way Today might be terribly tough But hold on and hold out There will be a day When all is made right When you’re rewarded for your good fight When everything is brought Into the light When faith is finally made sight Each day has trouble of its own Though the future awaits And the past is gone We strive to make love a memory To live it now and in the days to be Though enemies and hindrances exist Let us not avenge Or raise a fist If we can only do our best And let the day to come Deal with all the rest
8.
I’m thinking about the war again But it’s not here it’s somewhere else I’m thinking about the war and then Put that thought back on the shelf I’ve got the hiccup blues Just while I watch the 10 o’clock news I’ve got the hiccup blues I’m thinking about the day I die How all my friends will say goodbye I’m thinking about the day I die Then turn to watch the pretty sky I’ve got the hiccup blues It’s lucky when you’re allowed to choose To have the hiccup blues
9.
Like a night without stars I wonder where you are I feel the cold all the way in my bones Like a tree without leaves The way my heart grieves You never answer your phone, anymore Cause it’s thunder in the tundra And I’m feeling twice as lost It’s trouble now on trouble I feel like I’m losing the coin toss Like I’m in a country far from home And I’m all alone Like a field without flowers These withering hours I feel the diminishment of my soul Like a bay with no breeze You’re ignoring my pleas Right now, I feel anything but whole
10.
The moment is a missed opportunity Or perhaps a trade A gift of peace and meaning Or perhaps a tirade The moment is cumulative Or isolated alone The maker of relationship The time you look at or away from your phone The moment is king clown or pauper A slave to money, desire, or the clock Time relaxing by a river Or when you pick up your figurative guitar and rock The moment is here and gone All of what life consists The most forgiving unit of measure But also the severest test The moment is trapped in amber Or set adrift on a stream As cold and lonely as an iceberg Or as hot and abrupt as a burst of steam The moment is as simple as breathing Or as complex as physics and math As dirty as a sailor’s vocabulary Or as nice and clean as a bath The moment is as cheap as a penny Or as expensive as a sports car The time it takes light to travel great distance Or for a saber tooth tiger to get trapped in tar The moment is a present to open Or something to evade The time it takes to give birth to life Or finally to fade

You were there for me When I was just a sheep With a bad haircut You were there with me When I was a caterpillar Long before I was filled up With dreams to fly You were there with me You were there for me And I Want to make you proud (As long as I’m allowed) Share this love out loud Walk with you Through valley (hell) And in the clouds You were there for me Before I shed my mottled Reptile skin You were there with me All those times I tripped and fell And learned new ways to win You were there with me You were there for me my friend You there for me When I was Just a child with a selfish brain You were there with me Through my nihilism When the world was black And all I felt was pain You were there for me So I sing this sweet refrain
12.
Like a city on a hill We can practice fortified free will We can trade our caves For scenery Our desert hearts for miles of greenery Like dolphins in the dusk We can shed our self-effacing masks We can trade our fears For poetry Give way to hope and curiosity The moon’s a light up in the sky Perfect for longing and lullabies But a world alive awaits us all Down here Though we get wrapped up in bed sheets We hear the calling of the streets The world’s our stage and we can be Shakespeare Computers, cars, and microphones All help us feel less alone You can wear your heart upon your sleeve Help somebody struggling believe The journey of 1000 miles Begins with a toothbrush And a passport smile We can find a hole that’s in a wall Walk museum, subway, or palace halls Like city on a hill Even if you’ve got to take your pills…
13.
You brought me on a trip Around the world You brought me all the way home To my own heart You made me believe in compassion Yes, your passion is the greatest part An eagle once A blackbird many times A dove forever You got me flying You opened me to worlds Of understanding You opened me to comprehend your gracious heart You made me believe in a heaven Yes your presence is the greatest part
14.
I might have my Sometimes skewed Point of view But know this, baby I love you You might be bright yellow When I wanna Be blue But know this, baby I love you The stars can’t always Be aligned And a good thing Takes some time Some time I might see the forest When you just See the trees But know this You’re my main squeeze I might be a tornado When you just Wanna breeze But know this You’re my main squeeze Everything can’t always Come up roses But maybe that’s What grows us What grows us
